The property lies within the grounds of a Grade I listed Scheduled Ancient Monument, set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Our client's wish was to construct a new porch to the east side entrance, in-keeping with the existing buildings. The porch was constructed in stone with arch headed window and door openings, with traditional stone slate roof over. The door and window frames are in a bronze finish. Internally, proposals included the removal of a staircase with the formation of a new light well, adaptations to existing staircases and the insertion of new doors - all in light English oak. New ‘ultra-thin’ retro-fit underfloor heating systems were installed to the ground floor to avoid any potential impact on below ground archaeology.

Extensive collaboration with the Local Authority and English Heritage was required over a number of months with planning approval, listed building and scheduled monument consents being obtained.

The works were completed in Summer 2015.
