Blenkin & Co. occupy the ground floor of number 29 High Petergate - a Listed Grade II* building in the centre of York, situated a stone’s throw from the Minster. The brief required ways of enlarging the existing office space, whilst also improving the poor lavatory and kitchen facilities within outbuildings located across an open rear yard.

The solution was to roof over the entire yard area and provide a new top-lit office / meeting room space, linking through to the existing back office, with new top-lit toilet and kitchen spaces. This allowed good levels of light and ventilation to be achieved.

The highly insulated roof is supported on a steel frame to support the weight of the bespoke rooflight and is covered with lead sheet. The new office space below has a large flush door leading to walk-in storage space. The walls and skirtings have modern yet simple flush details, painted out, with the floor finished with wide oak boards.

The opening between the existing and new office spaces is divided by a set of glazed doors which roll back into slotted wall recesses.

The new facilities provide modern, bright and airy interiors whilst now maximising the potential usable office space.
